I enjoy being handheld. If you know what I mean.

...I don't know what I mean either.

FF: Dawn of Souls (GBA): Game Info

FF1 finally comes to a handheld system in the English-speaking world. This remake featured all the updated graphics, sound and gameplay of the WonderSwan Color version. Also new in this version were some added dungeons with new monsters and equipment. The difficulty in this game was somewhat reduced compared to its predecessors, perhaps indicative of the intended target audience. Nonetheless FF1:DoS is plenty of fun.

I'm leaving a comment for EXP....

Anyway, I think Souls of Chaos kinda ruins the game.

I know what Brian means... You're disgusting, Brian

Well it comes with FF2 and it still has that pixelated charm that the PSP version doesn't. That's about all this one has going for it.

When it was released, the GBA version was the only way to play FF1 on a handheld other than the WSC version, which no one in the world bought except me and 3 or 4 other guys. So the GBA version was a good thing at the time.

The graphics are terrible compared to the PSP version.

Jan 08, 2010 09:50 PM PST

Then don't compare it to the PSP version.

Jan 13, 2010 07:35 PM PST

The graphics are way better than the NES version.

Jan 14, 2010 10:10 PM PST

True, but then again, Its not fair to compare 8-bit graphics to GBA graphics... Thats almost like comparing GBA graphics to PSP graphics :p

This is a great remake, 2nd best version. though the encounter rate is far to high.

But the nes version has far better everything

i think this version is my favorite... please don't kill me.

Mar 12, 2010 10:31 AM PST

We won't kill you, though the PSP one does kindof trump it nowadays.

That is, if you count one new dungeon a fair trade for FFII in its entirety. :P

Mar 13, 2010 05:22 AM PST

not really I'd rather have FFII over one dungeon

Mar 14, 2010 03:42 PM PDT

One dungeon kind of trumps FF2 (gba) when you already have FF2 (psp).

Mar 15, 2010 03:06 PM PDT

heh, yeah but you have to get it separately if ou didn't have it for the PSP

Apr 08, 2010 09:42 PM PDT

i love this game. ^^

Apr 09, 2010 05:47 AM PDT

I don't care what anyone says, I'll take any version of FF I can get

yeah, I remember doing the final temple with the old spell slot system and all I can say is.. god bless MP! easy? yes, but a bad thing? I say no =p

Dawn of Souls is such an awesome name. I wish my name were thus.

Jun 27, 2010 12:11 PM PDT

I love this game, Dawn of Souls is the one that started it all for me.

Jul 06, 2010 10:34 AM PDT

This game is great. At first, I was all "FF is too much level grinding for me," but now I just breeze through, no grinding necessary.

Jul 07, 2010 12:52 AM PDT

Right now I'm playing through the NES version but I must admit that I play DoS way more. It only takes 6-7 hours to complete (without the extra dungeons) and you have mana. Lately I've found it too easy though.

BTW I like the graphics better than the psp, like Ruzlok said, this game still has the pixel charm.

Aug 10, 2010 02:55 PM PDT

This is my favorite version for all of the balance: graphics are good but with pixel charm, the classes balance out more, and it has ffii just in case you want something else. There's also the ffii bonus game and soul of chaos. Dawn of Souls for the win!

I like this, the NES and the PSP versions all. I don't like Origins anymore, the PSP versions trump Origins.

Mar 14, 2014 10:28 AM PDT

I wish the IOS version wasn't so expensive. I already have 3 versions and I want that one too.

Apr 14, 2015 03:19 PM PDT

I got this version right after I beat the NES version. Its something to behold in terms of being able to take FF1 with you. Talk about the deejay-vu.
