I feel nearly 3-D. *shudder*

FF: 20th Anniversary (PSP): Game Info

Officially called "Final Fantasy: 20th Anniversary Edition", this is the latest in a long line of FF1 remakes, this time for the Playstation Portable system. This game marks the 20th birthday of the release of FF1 for the Famicom system in Japan.

This remake looks largely similar to the other remakes, but with drastically more detailed sprites and graphics.

Let's hope people don't start arguing about the box covers again... =/

This is possibly the best remake. It's got awesome graphics, just the way I like it.

Plus its got that time dungeon with the time boss at the end :)

Dec 31, 2009 01:05 PM PST

I found it a lot easier than the NES version.

Id like to see a 3-D version of FF1 just like FF4 and FF3

Jan 01, 2010 02:16 PM PST

Then you should play FF9. ;) One of the funnest things about that game was that it was a 3-D version of the exact world in FF1. You could explore all the same volcanoes and caves. Even the bosses from FF1 made a reappearance in FF9.

Yes, FF9 was a great homage to FF1. It had references to Matoya and fiends and Gurgu Volcanoes and a huge spoiler reference with regard to the female lead character.

Jan 04, 2010 11:24 AM PST

wait, it was THE EXACT SAME game, or just the same areas and stuff?

Jan 05, 2010 05:46 PM PST

No, just same terrain with continents, cities, and volcanoes all in about the exact same spot they were in on FF1. Completely new story and characters, though. Like it was set in a different decade or century.

Squaresoft had run out of ideas o_O

untill FFX... god... my fave charecter was the dude with the red robe (i forgot how to spell his name)

Jan 15, 2010 04:11 AM PST

Auron!

Jan 16, 2010 11:12 PM PST

Thank u kain, the bigest shock about auron was that *spoiler* he was dead the entire game

Jan 19, 2010 08:16 AM PST

come on I figured that out around the time you get to the farplane ohh and I was talking about just like an exact remake of FF1 in 3d like FF3 and 4 got on the NDS

Jan 20, 2010 04:45 PM PST

never played FF2-4......... need to buy those when they get on virtual console

Jan 22, 2010 12:36 PM PST

FF1 is an empty enough game. I don't think adding a 3rd dimension would do anything except emphasize that.

Jan 31, 2010 10:40 AM PST

Gooc remake, but too easy like GBA version.

Feb 02, 2010 07:34 PM PST

The only way that a 3D version of this game would be good is if the entire game looked like the opening cinematic of the PSX version.

Mar 05, 2010 09:42 AM PST

If they did a remake that had all the mechanics of FFI with the presentation of FFXII, it would be a site to behold... watching all the classic monsters (purple ogres) walk around in 3D renderings of the classic dungeon. It'd be cool stuff.

Anyway, the PSP game is only slightly different from the GBA one (if you don't count the removal of FFII entirely). I was never a fan of the decreased difficulty of the remakes. This game sorely needs a "classic" mode like PSX.

Mar 06, 2010 09:48 AM PST

I just cant see any reason why square wouldn't include a difficulty setting with it

Mar 12, 2010 10:57 AM PST

Probably because by that point they'd created so much extra content, they didn't feel like balancing it all for two difficulty levels... note that the difficulty options disappeared as soon as they started adding dungeons.

Mar 18, 2010 05:44 PM PDT

I never thought this game needed multiple difficulty settings

Mar 19, 2010 03:38 PM PDT

It did, for the simple fact, it was WAY too easy, but still good :)

Mar 26, 2010 07:31 AM PDT

THIS IS THE BEST VERSION EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apr 01, 2010 09:24 PM PDT

This was my first rpg. I was deeply impressed.

Apr 02, 2010 11:06 AM PDT

well a pretty good choice for your first rpg, the first game in the greatest rpg franchise to date :D not the best version though but still ok

Apr 05, 2010 07:22 PM PDT

Classic really says it all, for those of us who remember spending an entire summer playing through the original on NES, we will get every remake they can dish out, I still feel instantly better when I hear the end-of-combat music, which is the ringtone on my roommate's phone

awesomesauce

Jun 18, 2010 07:21 AM PDT

Love it cover

Jun 18, 2010 07:22 AM PDT

Love the cover of it

Jun 21, 2010 06:49 AM PDT

PSP IS THE BEST ONE!!!!!

Aug 27, 2010 06:03 PM PDT

I liked the added dungeons and that Master finally looks cool, but I preferred Dawn of Souls, I think it looked much better. Especially the way Black Wizard looked in it. If Square had the option to set DoS sprites on the Anniversary Edition I would have liked it more.

Feb 04, 2014 05:21 PM PST

I bought FF I and II Anniversary Edition from Amazon.ca, just waiting for them to come. In the meantime I'm playing FF II with a PSP emu so I have a much bigger screen and, this one's most important, much better sound! Honestly, as much as I like the PSP even at max volume it's not very loud, and some games don't use sound as well as they should.

I got this one
